Steering rack spacers purpose is to correct the bump steer on lowered 99-05 Mazda MX-5 NB by rising steering rack 15 mm from it’s original mounting surface.
It’s a must have mod for MX-5’s without power steering and with extended lower ball joints (with extended lower ball joints the
forces required for steering are much greater).
Lowering your car changes the angle of the tie rod which causes changes in wheel toe in/out over the bumps (bump steer). Adding spacers to the steering rack corrects this angle and reduces bump steer.
We have chosen and tested our spacers on our competition car over the last season and found out that 15 mm works great for almost every MX-5 with ride height between being completely slammed and a race stance.
As far as we know this is the only rack spacer kit available for NB / NBFL (Mk2 and Mk2.5) cars on the market.
Available material options:
– high perfomance plastic compound (POM-C), thoroughly tested and resulting product is lighter than metal, yet very durable.
– machined from billet aluminium, which is the standard choice because of it’s ease of use and durability.
This kit will work with NB steering rack and subframe only. A kit for NA / Mk1 steering rack is available here.
Please note that it is absolutely necessary to perform alignment on the car after the spacers are installed! Without it will cause excessive toe out and high tire wear on the front of your car.
